NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Vanderbilt Center (originally named The Vanderbilt Family Health Clinic – “Gotham Medical”) was the first new healthcare facility constructed on Staten Island in over 10 years. Key goals were to accelerate the delivery of healthcare services to an underserved community, minmimize disruption to the community in a dense urban setting, and deliver a sustainable building capable of achieving a LEED Silver rating. It’s strategically located in a neighborhood with the greatest and most convenient access to mass transit for patients and staff. The building incorporates Clinical Programs including Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Radiology, Diabetes Care as well as Behavioral Health, all while meeting the stringent NYC building codes and Departmenet of Health regulations. Axis Construction Corporation was awarded this Design/Build contract specifically bid by NYC Health and Hospitals to be constructed utilizing Modular construction.
To meet the fast-track schedule, the structure is comprised of over 59 modules that were installed in only 6 days. In fact, modular construction by Axis Construction allowed the clinic to open almost 9 months sooner than would have been possible with conventional, site-built construction. The facility is a two (2) story, stand-alone building that is approximately 20,000 SF, Type II (steel frame – noncombustible) equipped with a fully automatic fire sprinkler system. It’s designed in accordance with NYC-HHC’s program requirements as well as all NYC Building Codes and Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment requirements. The building has also achieved a LEED Silver rating. The building is Staten Island’s newest diagnostic and treatment center and it is anticipated to handle over 40,000 patient visits annually by 2020.
