Axis Construction Corporation, a premier provider of modular buildings, construction management, design-build, and general contracting services, was recognized in the Modular Building Institute’s (MBI) 2020 Awards of Distinction. The ceremony, held during the World of Modular Annual Convention & Tradeshow in Orlando, Fl before the tragic world pandemic unfolded, was attended by over 825 influential modular construction professionals. Axis Construction took home First Prize in the Permanent Modular Dormitory for its Molloy College, Bogner Hall modular building, built in Rockville Center, NY. The modular approach allowed Molloy College to open its third residence hall over nine months ahead of what conventional construction would have allowed, ensuring the students would have access to a new state of the art facility with minimal delay.
Bogner Hall is a 28,000 sq. ft. 3 story building with full basement. It features full brick and cast stone masonry cladding, aluminum and glass curtain wall and is served with a four-stop elevator. Positioned perpendicular to the existing residence halls on campus, it creates a new plaza and hub for social activity. The three-story, coeducational building houses 96 students in double and triple style rooms. A security desk, three study lounges, two private music practice rooms with pianos are on the lower level. Large lounge with TV and games, couches and a kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave and counter all make it more than just a place to sleep after a long day of classes. Comprised of 58 modules, in Type II (steel – noncombustible) it features an automatic fire sprinkler system. It has the latest security technology, wireless internet throughout, in-suite climate control as well as a back-up generator capable of supporting the other two residence halls in case of power failure.
Axis partnered with modular manufacturer Modlogiq based in New Holland, PA to fabricate and deliver the modular building. “This year’s Awards of Distinction contest was very competitive, with over one hundred entries overall,” said Tom Hardiman Executive Director of the Modular Building Institute. “Our panel of independent judges had some tough choices to make, so I congratulate Axis Construction on winning this award.”
