Hauppauge, NY – January 22, 2024 – Axis Construction Corporation, an award-winning leader in conventional and modular commercial construction for the Northeast, is proud to announce that the Modular Division has been chosen to design/build a 4,040 square foot animal shelter for the the city of Milton, MA. This turn-key project includes design, site development, manufacturing of the modular building, and site-constructed garage.
“Modular was the ideal approach for this project and this site,” notes Brent Doucette, Business Development Manager, Modular Division. “The site was previously a stone quarry that consisted of undulating contours with massive ledge outcroppings. Modular construction allowed for an alternate foundation design featuring isolated footings/piers. These minimize the need for extensive ledge removal and help conserve Animal League funds by avoiding unnecessary foundation and site prep costs.”
The animal shelter features a number of custom features for longevity and ease of operations, including interior kennel spaces constructed of poured concrete with epoxy coating and featuring integrated floor drains. The kennels are divided by custom-designed stainless steel partitions, and stainless steel access and guillotine doors allow animals to move safely and easily from sleeping to exercise spaces. A 500-square foot garage will be built at the site to seamlessly integrate with the modular structure. Tim Stellenwerf, Project Manager at Axis Construction, will oversee the project.
The project was awarded in October, 2023 and the contract was finalized in December. Thanks to the dramatically reduced site impact of modular construction, site work won’t have to begin until June, 2024 and the new facility will be completed by September.
