The Axis Construction Corp. was contracted by St. Charles Hospital to renovate existing space within the Radiology department for a new state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT) suite. Alterations to the pre-existing admitting area and file room were to be completed as well.

Maintaining operation of the department throughout the construction process was challenging, and required that the work be performed in phases. Strict compliance with the hospital’s infection control policies was necessary. With medical procedures being performed side by side with construction, the team had to be conscious of dust containment. Due to the nature of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging, specialized mechanical equipment as well as radio frequency shielding was needed during construction.

The MRI and CT scan suite features a newly renovated admitting area and file room. A common control room for the CT and MRI links the two together. A special DC lighting system was installed so as not to interfere with the MR systems operation.
