MRI AND CT SCAN SUITE
St. Charles Hospital – Port Jefferson, NY

The Axis Construction Corp was contracted by St. Charles Hospital to renovate existing space within the Radiology department for a new state of the art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT) suite. Alterations to the pre-existing admitting area and file room where to be completed as well.

Maintaining operation of the department throughout the construction process was challenging, and required that the work be performed in phases. Strict compliance with the hospital’s infection control policies was necessary. With medical procedures being performed side by side with construction, the team had to be conscious of dust containment. Due to the nature of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging specialized mechanical equipment as well as radio frequency shielding was needed during construction. Non-ferrous materials had to be used so as not to affect the operation of the magnet..

The MRI and CT scan suite features a newly renovated admitting area and file room. A common control room for the CT and MRI links the two together. A special DC lighting system was installed so as not to interfere with the MR systems operation.
