The Modular and Medical Imaging divisions of Axis Construction Corp won a competitive bid to provide North Shore University Hospital at Plainview with the very first modular MRI facility. The project requested Axis to design and build a totally transportable building of approximately 1,800 square feet for the hospital's site.

The nature of the project posed some considerable challenges to the Axis Group. Shipping two 14’ wide by 65’ long buildings weighing well over 80,000 pounds from the plant located in Indiana was a difficult task, especially since the walls, ceilings, floors, a special RF, shielded Scan room complete with independent footing to control the magnets, vibration, and electrical and mechanical systems were all in place.

The building houses the hospital’s new state-of-the-art GE 1.5 TESLA MRI System, as well as the patient and support-staff spaces required. The exterior of the modular addition was made to blend in with the existing architecture of the hospital.
