As the design builder for this project, the Axis team was able to accelerate
the total design and
building schedule. North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Systems required
the construction of four
operating rooms, with two additional scaled-out operating rooms to
allow for future expansion, a
recovery and pre-op area, staff-support space, as well as a pre-surgical
testing area. The goal was to
create a patient-friendly facility that would serve adults as well
as pediatrics.
Coordinating efforts with all of the Health Systems’ many departments—such
as the Ambulatory
Surgery Staff, Anesthesiologists, Infectious Disease Control, I.T.,
Security, and Materials Management,
just to name a few—was challenging. The Axis team also had to coordinate
the hospital applications to
the state for C.O.N. approval, as well as D.O.H. approval.
